10-year-old firebug caught on CCTV: cops

CCTV footage has captured a 10-year-old boy allegedly starting scrub fires just metres from homes in Enfield in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

The video shows the boy entering the scrub on the corner of Turnbull and Tindall roads on his scooter just moments before a blaze erupts, with nearby residents then rushing to distinguish the fire.

Though the footage does not capture the boy starting any fires, he can be seen returning to the same area on three separate occasions.

Responding firefighters alerted police.

The boy was then apprehended by police just minutes after he allegedly started a third blaze.

“We believe we’ve got a juvenile arsonist in the area who has actually just started another grass fire nearby that we will get to work with,” a police spokesman said.

A resident in the area, Sandra Agostino, told 9 News that she could “smell smoke throughout the house”, while fellow local Pam Russell said the fires could have been “really dangerous for the houses down the back there”.

The boy is expected to now be processed through Adelaide’s juvenile justice system after being reported for recklessly endangering property.
