Fire, smoke and water damage were reported following a blaze at an abandoned home in Winnipeg’s Point Douglas neighbourhood, according to the city’s fire department.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to the fire on Argyle Street shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday, it said in a news release. Crews contended with heavy smoke and flames coming from the house, which prevented firefighters from safely entering the building.
Crews fought the fire outside of the home using an aerial ladder to direct water onto the flames during the hours-long firefighting mission. It was brought under control just before 9:30 a.m.
“The building sustained severe fire, smoke and water damage,” the WFPS said in the release.

The same home was also damaged by a fire in June. Thursday’s fire prompted the WFPS to begin arranging an emergency demolition of the vacant home, it said.
One firefighter was assessed by paramedics at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
