Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins has revealed Test opener Usman Khawaja will not wear shoes featuring a message of support for Palestine in the first Test against Pakistan.

Khawaja wore shoes sporting the slogans “Freedom is a human right” and “All lives are equal” at the Australia team’s main training session on Tuesday.

Cummins encouraged his teammates to have “passionate views” on issues and supported his teammate’s message.

“Uzzie doesn’t want to make too big of a fuss, on his shoes he had ‘all lives are equal’, I think that’s not very divisive, I don’t think anyone can have too many complaints about that,” Cummins said during a media conference.

Players and officials are not permitted to display messages on their clothing or equipment unless approved in advance by their board or the ICC.
