‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ overtakes Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing domestic movie ever

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has overtaken Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing movie in North American box office history.

The Tom Holland-led Marvel film has earned $936.773 million domestically after 47 days in theatres, surpassing The Force Awakens, which previously held the record with $936 million since its 2015 release.

The latest milestone adds to the impressive box office performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has continued to draw audiences since opening in late July. The film debuted with $360 million in North America and $932 million globally during its opening weekend. It crossed $1 billion worldwide after six days and reached $2 billion after three weekends.

The Marvel and Sony release has now earned $2.45 billion globally, placing it among the highest-grossing films of all time. According to the source, it ranks behind Avatar and Avengers: Endgame while ahead of Avatar: The Way of Water and Titanic.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is Tom Holland’s fourth solo film as Peter Parker. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie follows the events of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which the world forgets Peter Parker’s identity.

The film also achieved several domestic box office milestones during its run. It became the fastest movie to reach $700 million, $800 million and $900 million in North America and is only the second film to cross $900 million domestically.

With its latest record, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become a major box office success for Marvel following a difficult 2025 that included underperforming releases such as Captain America: Brave New World and The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
