As Yashasvi Jaiswal brought up his century with a single off Anshul Kamboj amid huge cheers from the crowd on Sunday, he touched the Mumbai crest on his shirt and raised his bat towards the dugout.

While his teammates acknowledged his contribution with a standing ovation, Jaiswal (101, 50b, 16×4, 1×6) put on his helmet again to get back to action.

With the target of 235 still seven runs away, Jaiswal wanted to finish things off quickly to improve the team’s net run rate (NRR), but the left-hander was dismissed immediately by Samant Jakhar.

But Atharva Ankolekar struck a six and a four to close off the game as Mumbai earned a four-wicket win against Haryana, with 15 balls to spare. This was also the second-highest successful run chase in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

However, this may still not be enough for the defending champion to reach the final as Hyderabad pulled off a convincing six-wicket win against Rajasthan to top the Group-B with two successive victories in the Super League.

Mumbai needs to defeat Rajasthan by a huge margin on Tuesday, and hope for other Hyderabad to slip up badly against Haryana.

With Mumbai bowling first in the do-or-die battle, Haryana rode on captain Ankit Kumar’s 89 and an unbeaten 63 by Nishant Sindhu, who braved an injured finger, to put up a mammoth 234 for three.

But Mumbai got to 50 off just 19 deliveries, with Jaiswal and Ajinkya Rahane dominating.

Timely reminder

After Rahane’s exit, Sarfaraz Khan (64, 25b, 9×4, 3×6) sent a timely reminder to the franchises with a 17-ball-50 to turn the tide in Mumbai’s favour. Jaiswal changed gears after Sarfaraz fell, and stood firm, even as Mumbai lost a few quick wickets.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad’s juggernaut rolled on as it chased down Rajasthan’s 178 for nine, riding on Tanmay Agarwal’s 41-ball-73 and Buddhi Rahul’s 55 off 36. With C.V. Milind and Tanay Thyagarajan claiming three wickets each, Hyderabad jolted Rajasthan’s top-order before Mohammed Siraj picked up two wickets in his second spell.

In Group-A matches, N. Hemanth Reddy’s unbeaten 53-ball-109 helped Andhra knock Punjab out with a five-wicket win, while Madhya Pradesh choked against Jharkhand to suffer a one-run defeat.
