Popular Aussie brewery in administration

A popular Melbourne craft brewery has entered voluntary administration, thrusting the jobs of about 50 people into question.

Deeds Brewing in Glen Iris appointed administrators this week for its four associated businesses including Deeds Group, Deeds Taproom, Deeds Brewing Company and Future Proof Distilling.

Deloitte’s David Orr and Glen Kanevsky have been appointed as joint administrators.

Claiming multiple awards at the 2023 Australian International Beer Awards, Deeds Brewery won champion medium brewery and champion Victorian brewery.

It boasts more than 23,000 followers on social media but has not yet announced the administration plans, continuing as normal for the time being.

University friends Patrick Ale and David Milstein opened the brewery in 2012.

They opened in a former car workshop in Glen Iris in 2015 and brewed their first beer there in 2019.

Permission to build the onsite taproom and kitchen was granted in April 2020.

During the Covid lockdown, the brewery made and sold its own hand sanitiser.
