iOS 18.3 out with AI notification tweaks, Apple intelligence enabled by default | The Express Tribune

Apple has launched iOS 18.3, introducing updates to AI notification summaries and enabling Apple Intelligence by default on supported devices, including iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro, and Apple Silicon-powered iPads and Macs.

The update temporarily disables notification summaries for news and entertainment apps after concerns were raised about incorrect headline summaries, as highlighted by the BBC. Users will be notified when the feature is restored.

Apple Intelligence now default on iPhones

This update marks a significant step in Apple Intelligence’s rollout, a suite of AI features integrated into Apple devices. Previously optional, Apple Intelligence is now turned on automatically for supported devices, streamlining the user experience and expanding its adoption.

New features include Visual Intelligence, which allows users to add events to their Calendar app directly from images, such as posters or flyers, and tools to identify plants and animals. On Macs, the update adds Genmoji support and similar tweaks to notification summaries.

Notification summaries get a refresh

To enhance user experience, notification summaries will now appear in italicized text to distinguish them from standard notifications. Users can manage these summaries directly from their lock screen through new settings.

Apple’s cautious rollout of its AI features aims to test server capacity and ensure seamless integration. Currently, Apple Intelligence remains in beta and is only available in select English-speaking countries.

The iOS 18.3 update is now available for download under Settings > General > Software Update.
