After sent into bat, Royal Challengers Bengaluru put a brave show during the IPL 2025 match against Chennai Super Kings, in Chennai on Friday (March 28, 2025). Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished at a competitive total of 196 for 7.
Phil Salt (32 off 16 balls) and Virat Kohli (31 off 30 balls) put on 45 runs in 5 overs. Once again Dhoni was in action by effecting a lightning stumping to dismiss Phil Salt.
During the course of his knock Virat Kohli became the highest run getter against Chennai Super Kings in the history of IPL.
Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal (27) added 31 runs in just 2.5 overs with Padikkal being the main scorer. Ashwin dismissed Padikkal to bring captain Rajat Patidar into the crease. Patidar (51) and Kohli added 35 runs in under 5 overs when Noor Ahmed removed Kohli.
LIam Livingstone (10) and Jitesh Sharma (12) didn’t add much to the Bengaluru total. But Patidar completed his half-century, his first as IPL captain.
Tim David scored some valuable runs towards the end of the innings.
Wickets fell in regular intervals with Matheesha Pathirana (2 for 36) and Noor Ahmed (3 for 36) struck crucial blows. Khaleel Ahmed (1 for 28) and Ravichandran Ashwin (1 for 22) were the other wicket takers.

Stamped as a ‘southern derby’, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be expected to lift their game and win it in Chennai. The Bengaluru team has not won any game against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai after their only win in 2008.
