Britney Spears’ 2001 album returns with bonus tracks for 25th anniversary | The Express Tribune

Expanded edition of pop star’s 2001 album includes 23 tracks, five previously unheard recordings

A special edition of American pop star Britney Spears’ third studio album, Britney, was released Friday to mark its 25th anniversary, featuring five previously unreleased songs.

The 23-track collection, released by Legacy Recordings and credited to RCA Records, includes songs from the original 2001 album alongside additional recordings and two remixes, according to its listing on Apple Music.

Among the previously unreleased tracks are She’ll Never Be Me, Am I a Sinner, When I Say So, Right Now (Taste the Victory) and My Big Secret. She’ll Never Be Me, which Spears co-wrote with Justin Timberlake, received an early official release in October.

Originally released in November 2001, Britney marked a shift toward a more mature sound for the singer, who was 19 at the time. The album featured hits including I’m a Slave 4 U, Overprotected and I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman.

The anniversary edition offers fans additional recordings from that period of Spears’ career. The 44-year-old singer has not released a full album of new material since Glory in 2016.

Spears rose to international fame in 1998 with her debut single Baby One More Time, which became a global hit and established her as one of the defining pop stars of her generation. She went on to release successful albums and singles, including Oops!… I Did It Again, Toxic and Womaniser, earning her the nickname “Princess of Pop.”
