Anne Hathaway opts for a sheer couture ensemble, adding drama to the Mother Mary press tour appearance
Anne Hathaway turned heads at the Mother Mary press tour, stepping out in a striking sheer couture look that instantly became one of her boldest red carpet moments this year. The Oscar-winning actor wore a custom gown by Lever Couture, crafted from shimmering sheer fabric and layered mesh ribbons that created a soft, ethereal silhouette.
The sleeveless design featured an asymmetrical, high-low hemline, giving the outfit movement and a slightly dramatic edge as she walked the carpet.
Styled by Erin Walsh, the look leaned into a “naked dressing” trend, but in a more refined, high-fashion way, balancing transparency with structure rather than going fully revealing. She paired the gown with metallic heels by Christian Louboutin and elevated the ensemble with Bulgari jewellery reportedly worth over $100,000, including diamond and emerald pieces from the Serpenti line.
The fashion choice wasn’t random. Hathaway’s wardrobe for the press tour reflects her role in Mother Mary, where she plays a larger-than-life pop star navigating fame and reinvention. Her recent looks have leaned into that persona, glamorous, theatrical, and unapologetically bold. The story follows her character as she steps away from the spotlight and forms a complex relationship with a reclusive fashion designer, played by Michaela Coel.
Directed by David Lowery, the film blends music, fashion and emotional storytelling, offering a stylised look at celebrity culture and the cost of reinvention.
With its mix of bold styling and layered narrative, Mother Mary is shaping up to be one of Hathaway’s more visually driven and unconventional projects, something her press tour wardrobe is already reflecting.
