‘Absolutely disgusting’: Chaos as company lays off staff over Zoom, forgets to mute mics

Tech company Solera is under fire after performing a mass lay-off via Zoom in which it didn’t mute employees’ microphones.

In a pair of videos, TikTok user and laid off staff member Liz showcased the chaos of the call, in which people shared how many years they had spent at the company and even called for specific employees to be fired.

“This is bulls**t. This is absolutely disgusting,” one employee says, over the top of an HR staffer talking about remuneration packages.

“Six years I’ve been at this company. What are you guys going to do? … You’re just going to let me go?” says a second.

“You guys are going to crash and burn,” she adds.

Finally, one person on the call snaps.

“This is the problem with this company. You guys have not cared about our employees at all,” the woman says.

“AutoMate (a training company bought by Solera in 2019) used to be an awesome company. You guys bought us and f***ed us royally. I am so disgusted.”

“You guys are screwed,” the same woman adds later, before astoundingly calling for one of her colleagues to be fired.

“You should get rid of David, if anything. He has let us down so many times and in so many ways. He’s the problem, not the people who actually do the work,” she said.

The conversation continues in the following video, with more employees voicing their concerns.

At one point, a manager says that they are “sorry that this is happening.”

“No, you’re not,” responds an employee.

The Zoom call was abruptly ended, with some employees saying they were still uncertain about their severance packages and employment status.

Commenters on the TikTok videos criticised the company’s handling of the situation, with one calling the decision to conduct Zoom call about lay-offs an “HR nightmare”.
