Arrowfield’s John Messara has discussed the history-maker Hitotsu and how he became the horse he is known for.
The 5-year-old stallion was the first since Mahogany in 1994 to win the Victoria Derby, Australian Guineas, and Australian Derby treble.
Arrowfield’s John Messara said each of Hitotsu’s three Group 1 victories is an “exceptional” performance.
“This guy is exceptional absolutely exceptional and it comes from the pedigree to some extent and also the motor he has in there,” he told Racing Dreams.
“His got an outstanding cardiovascular system and tremendous supporting lungs and this is something the trainers worked out quickly earlier in his career off their sports medicine metrics that they get,” he said.
“They worked out quickly that he was a horse that had very good recovery and during his work, he was able to run splits which were as fast as any other horse had run under their care.
“They gave him task which they probably wouldn’t have given to another horse and yet he was up to it and well he made history.”
