Apple is set to launch its first game streaming service on iOS and iPadOS next week, catering to hardcore retro gamers. The service, named Antstream, was highlighted by Cult of Mac and The Verge websites

Antstream, already available on platforms such as Xbox, Windows, Android, and Amazon devices, offers a catalogue of over 1,300 retro games. Titles include classics like Missile Command, Sam & Max Hit the Road, Asteroids, and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

The move follows Apple’s compliance with the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) last year, which allowed game streaming services in its App Store. Antstream’s library includes legally licensed retro titles, setting it apart from emulators like Delta, RetroArch, and PPSSPP, which require users to source their own ROMs.

The service features hundreds of games from platforms such as the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, and Commodore Amiga. However, the collection includes only 28 Atari 2600 games, five from the Game Boy, two from the original PlayStation, and 42 from the Super Nintendo, which means users may need to search for their preferred titles.

Antstream subscriptions will be discounted at launch, costing $3.99 per month or $29.99 per year, slightly lower than the standard $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year. The service will be available on the App Store starting June 27.
