Two words spark potential legal stoush between Sandilands and Chalmers

The two most well known Kyle’s in Australia could be set for a legal stoush.

Kyle Sandilands is said to be considering taking legal action against Aussie swimming sensation Kyle Chalmers over his new shoe range.

The Olympic champ launched his range with the words ‘King Kyle’ on the side of the shoe, it’s because of those two words that could lead to the courtroom.

KIIS FM breakfast co-host Sandilands, who has long been the king of the airwaves Down Under, said the issue was brought to his attention by his legal team.

“He’s brought out a shoe range with King Kyle written on the side and my legal team are like you own the IP internationally, no one else can use that without you getting paid,’’ Sandilands said.

“My quandary is, do I bombard this bloke with the legal letters, take all his medals, take his house, his car, shut this company down, like bulldoze the joint down and then bring home a couple metres of dirt as a trophy, or do I just not worry about it.”

Sandilands was discussing the topic with co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson when he said it’s probably one he’d just let go.

“I lean to not worry about it,’’ he admitted.

But Jackie wasn’t going to let it go and said he needed to give it serious consideration in chasing it up.

“(To say) it’s just business, well that’s bullshit,’’ she said.

“You think right now it’ll blow over and it’ll be nothing, but what if it becomes this huge thing and you own that brand.

“You don’t want to be an a**hole about it.

“I think you should let them use the run they’ve done already then say maybe you should look at a different name. Oh, I don’t know Kyle, it’s a horrible situation to be in.”

Sandilands said: “If I made a shoe with Coca-Cola written on the side, they’d be outraged”.

Chalmers teamed up with shoe company Athletikan to release his own signature sneaker line, the first-ever Australian swimmer to design his own sneakers.

The shoes, which sport a special KC logo for “King Kyle”, are bright neon yellow and green, redolent of the Australian swim colours.

The sneaker collaboration places Mr Chalmers in the tradition of sporting superstars like Michael Jordan and Cristiano Ronaldo, who made shoes “cool” and products that carry cultural value.

Chalmers will compete at the Paris Olympics in July and plans to keep swimming after that at the world championships.
