Inside this young Aussie couple’s ,500 normal spending week

A young Aussie family have revealed how they spend $2500 a week while on a mission to get on top of their finances.

Hannah Sands, 29, a musician and mum-of-one, explained that she and her partner are trying to enter their “financially literate” era and are keeping track of their expenses for the first time.

Taking to TikTok, she revealed that she’s decided to embrace budgeting to mend her complicated relationship with money that started in her early 20s.

The creator said that while it was “shocking” to suddenly realise what you are spending, it was also a “freeing” experience to share it online, and it was helping her tackle the “shame” she felt around money, doing her a world of good.

She said the process had also made her go through her bank statements and check what was coming out of her account monthly. She ended up cancelling things she wasn’t even using, saving hundreds in the process.

The musician has started sharing weekly recaps of how she spends her money with the goal of learning habits on how to cut down on her spending.

The money recaps are interesting because Hannah doesn’t try to sugar-coat what they are spending money on; instead, she opts for transparency.

In early December, the young mum explained that she and her partner spent $288.68 on a family vacation but justified that they wanted to use their money for stuff that involved spending time together.

“We love and value spending time away as a family” she said.

The Brisbane native also revealed they spent $121 on petrol, $30.10 on coffee, $44.40 on eating out, an amount she was pretty “proud” of and $40 on what she called “random” stuff for her toddler.

She added they then spent $73 on parking, but it is for the spot they regularly use and get billed monthly for, $112.7 on car insurance and a staggering $468.10 on groceries.

The mum explained they also spent $212.51 on supplements but claimed it was worth the money because it was also something the couple “valued.”

She said they spent $67.90 on the gym, $30.44 on streaming subscriptions, $65 on her child’s daycare, and $950 on their mortgage.

Ultimately, it all came out at $2502.07.

Ms Sands then requested her followers to be “gentle” with their feedback because she was new to tracking what she spent and called the final amount “nauseating.”

One person commented that her $400 grocery bill was pretty “good” for a whole month, but Ms Sands responded and broke the news that those groceries were only for a week.

Another commented that they loved Ms Sands’ breakdown because it made her feel “seen”. After all, she was honest about trying to learn good financial habits.

Another declared her spending over $200 on supplements was the “dumbest” move, and another commended her small daycare bill.
