Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Dr Kausar Abdullah Malik, has emphasised the importance of soybean cultivation for farmers’ financial benefit during the National Workshop on Soybean Production in Pakistan. Malik pointed out that soybeans, with their short growth duration, could prove more profitable for farmers. Stressing the global significance of soybeans in trade and the economy, he urged bringing financial incentives to encourage soybean cultivation. Participants acknowledged that soybeans are rich in essential nutrients, with 40-42% protein, 20-22% oil content, and 20-30% carbohydrates. Globally, soybean production reaches 370 million tonnes, with leading producer countries including Brazil, the US, Argentina, China, and India. Malik highlighted the leguminous nature of soybeans, enabling them to fix nitrogen in the soil, enhancing fertility and supporting sustainable agricultural practices. He emphasised soybeans’ role as a major global commodity.
