Overweight, hunched back, objectively terrible hair and ill-fitting clothing are apparently your future if you’re a remote worker.
Job discovery platform DirectApply has created a visual representation of the remote worker in 25 years, and Susan looks more like the hunchback of Notre Dame than your co-worker that chews too loudly.
The platform claims that constantly working from home will have severe physical side effects in the future and none of them are good.
According to DirectAppply, WFH workers will suffer from hunched shoulders, digital eye strain and hair loss from a lack of vitamin D.
Dark circles from staring at multiple screens and obesity from being stuck inside for long periods are also in their future. Not to mention the increased stress from not getting enough social interactions during the day.
The worst-case scenario image is what you’d expect to see on the back of a box of cigarettes, not as a result of forgoing time in the office.
Interestingly the image being shared online has yet to spark the reaction of people throwing on their best non-elastic pants and swiping their public transport cards to get back to the offices ASAP.
Instead, workers claim these images represent the opposite of what happens when you work from home. If workers aren’t commuting and can plan their day more flexibly, then they have time to take care of themselves.
One shared that this image was certainly not enough to get her back into the office as working from home had actually improved her health.
“Hell no! I work remotely to have a life and freedom to run on breaks and eat healthy throughout the day,” she claimed.
Similarly, another woman shared that she’s healthier when she works from home because she takes multiple breaks to walk her dog.
“I work remotely and would never go back,” she promised.
While another said that the image wasn’t scaring her back into the workplace because anyone could end up like this if they weren’t taking care of themselves.
“Anyone can end up like this if they don’t care take of themselves, remote work or not. Personally, I think remote work allows you to be more active,” she commented.
One shared that working from home led to her losing 17kg because she could exercise before work without having a commute and make healthy lunches.
Someone else claimed these images were “propaganda” and were just an attempt to get workers back in offices.
“This is how most people in the office look now,” one joked.
“This is trying so hard to get people back into the office,” another claimed.
“25 years! I’m already looking like that,” one quipped.
“Give me that over a commute any day,” another shared.
The overarching reaction to the visual representation was a collective scoff, with workers refusing to see the downsides of working from home.
