Anthony Phillips from insolvency firm Heard Phillips Lieberenz, with heading up the liquidation of Wake Concepts, Wake Carpentry and Wake Construction Group Pty Ltd, which are all owned by the Wake Construction.

In a statement Mr Phillips said Wake Concepts employed about 100 staff, who were all given notice of termination yesterday.

Today he was also appointed liquidator of Wake Carpentry and Wake Construction Group Pty Ltd, which has led to another 36 job losses.

Mr Phillips told news.com.au that it was too early to tell what had caused the entities to fail and he was focused on notifying all staff, suppliers and contractors the companies worked with.

“The liquidator’s most urgent task is to help employees get paid, and at first instance that will be by facilitating claims in the government’s Fair Entitlements Guarantee Scheme and the Building Industry Redundancy Scheme,” Mr Phillips said.

“In the longer term, the focus will be on realising as much as can be from the company’s projects and investigating the cause of the company’s failure,” he said.

Wake Construction was established in 1980 by Don Wake.

The company was working on the $1 billion build of the Walker Corporation’s 29-storey One Festival Tower, part of the redevelopment of Adelaide’s Festival Plaza.

According to its website, Wake Concepts has also worked on the Oval Hotel at Adelaide Oval, Emmaus Catholic School, Cardijn College and the St Catherine’s Retirement Community at Berry.

Wake Carpentry’s clients had included aged care facilities, the Oval Hotel at Adelaide Oval, Bremerton Windery and Ashford Hospital.

Earlier this month, major Adelaide home builder Qattro also went under, putting about 200 housing projects in doubt.

According to liquidators from Duncan Powell, the company owed more than $4.5 million to unsecured creditors, with more than 200 projects either being built or in pre-construction phase.
