Nisbet excited to pair with Arthur The Great

Kayla Nisbet is more than willing to take on an eight and half hour, 800km round trip to Corowa on Tuesday for three major players including one of Albury’s most exciting gallopers, Arthur The Great.

The Donna Scott-trained relation of Hong Kong idol Beauty Generation left a monumental impression when winning his debut at Narrandera by six lengths on August 22 with Nick Heywood in the saddle.

“He was really impressive,’’ Nisbet said.

“He obviously looks really hard to beat again on Tuesday but he does have a big weight. That said, they opted to go to Corowa instead of Wagga last Saturday because it looks a nicer race for him so they mustn’t be too concerned about the weight which adds more confidence for me.

“Barriers around Corowa can make all the difference so from a good gate, as I said, he looks very hard to beat.’’

Nisbet can get her army of fans off to the perfect start with Texas Open looking good for a first career win in the Naughtin Country Boosted Maiden Plate over 1400m.

“He probably should have won a race by now,’’ Nisbet said. “But we were saying after his last start that we are still working him out.

“We thought he had to lead after a couple of his runs where he raced very well and was hard to run down but then the other day, with the speed on, he showed a bit more versatility and he actually hit the line just sitting off them.

“I think he is a horse that you can ride to the speed of the race and once again, having drawn well will help around there.

“If he happens to land in front, he keeps running, but if you have take a sit of them and he finds the line like he did at Queanbeyan, he’ll certainly be in the finish,’’ Nisbet says.

Texas Open is trained by the astute Yass-based horseman Allan McRae who delivers Nisbet a second potential winner on the Corowa card on Tuesday in the shape of first starter Outback Angel.

A descendant of the famed 1923 VRC Oaks and Derby winner, Frances Tressady, Outback Angel sent out all the right signs when an unhurried sixth in her September 4 trial at Queanbeyan.

“I didn’t ask her for a huge effort but I was really pleased with her. She has a great attitude and did everything I asked of her,’’ Nisbet said.
