For six years in a row, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani has drawn zero salary, even as the company posted record profits, as per the company’s annual report which was released on Thursday (May 28, 2026).
He took no salary, no allowances, no perquisites, no retiral benefits, no commission and no stock options for six years running.
His cousins and executive directors, Nikhil Meswani and Hiral Meswani, took home ₹25 crore each. Executive director P.M.S. Prasad earned ₹20.58 crore, while Mr. Mukesh Ambani’s younger son, Anant Ambani, who is an executive director, drew a total of ₹12.17 crore in FY26.
Mr. Mukesh Ambani’s other two children, Isha Ambani and Akash Ambani, are non-executive directors, and they are believed to be drawing their salaries from Reliance Retail and Jio respectively.
Mr. Mukesh Ambani’s voluntary foregoing of remuneration began in June 2020, when he decided to give up his entire pay in light of the COVID-19 pandemic’s devastating impact on the nation’s social, economic and industrial health.
Even before COVID, Mr. Ambani had voluntarily capped his total remuneration at ₹15 crore since FY09 — a cap he maintained for 12 consecutive years regardless of the growth in revenues and profitability of the company during that period.
In FY26, RIL reported a consolidated net profit of ₹95,754 crore — the highest ever — and a market capitalisation of ₹18,19,103 crore ($191.8 billion).
