The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is seeking to propose an enhanced outlay for their green corridor scheme to ensure there exists the right infrastructure to absorb the renewable energy being produced, Santosh Sarangi, Secretary at the Union Ministry held Monday.

“We are also proposing a substantially bigger outlay for our green energy corridor scheme which will ensure that states have the right kind of equipment, the storage system and evacuation infrastructure under the intra-state network to handle renewable energy evacuation,” he stated.

Speaking at the industry body Confederation of Indian Industries’ Annual Business Summit (2026), Mr. Sarangi mentioned curtailment, that is, when the supply of renewable energy exceeds a grid’s ability to utilise it, as an imperative issue that must be addressed.

“Ability of the grid to absorb the renewable energy which is getting injected is extremely crucial,” he mentioned, adding, “More deployment of battery storage energy system, grid forming inverters, synchronous condensers will actually provide that pathway,” he stated.

Separately, in his address, Mr. Sarangi also stated the ministry is also mulling on bringing in incentive scheme for floating solar projects and agri-photovoltaics, as they seek to ensure that renewable energy adoption is decentralised and not concentrated to specific states.
