The suspension of the Indian Premier League for a week has resulted in the T20 Mumbai League (T20M) and the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) being postponed by a week.

T20 Mumbai – after hosting two successful editions in 2018 and 2019 – was set to return to the city calendar from May 27, with a gala inauguration ceremony planned a day earlier, till June 8 at the Wankhede Stadium.

The Maharashtra Cricket Association’s stadium on the outskirts of Pune was scheduled to host the MPL from May 31 to June 15.

However, with the IPL – scheduled to resume on May 17 – final to be played on June 3, neither the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) nor the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MhCA) can start their respective leagues till the IPL is over.

“We are waiting for a formal clearance from the BCCI about the revised window. As soon as we get a go-ahead, we will announce the revised fixtures,” Kamlesh Pisal, the MhCA secretary, told The Hindu on Tuesday.

Abhay Hadap, the MCA secretary, also echoed a similar sentiment, adding that the “IPL has just been rejigged, so it’s understandable that it will take a few days more” for T20M to be reorganised.

According to the BCCI rules, no intra-State league can clash with the IPL. But with the delay of the IPL, the T20 Mumbai and MPL are likely to be affected by the monsoon. The rainy season begins in Mumbai around June 10, while Pune starts getting showers around June 15.

No delay for WMPL

The MhCA is likely to get a go-ahead for the WMPL – the first edition that will feature Smriti Mandhana as captain of one of the four teams – to be staged from May 26, since there is no conflict between WMPL and the IPL from a broadcast perspective.
