WhatsApp is introducing a new feature for its status updates, allowing users to share music along with their photos and videos.

The feature, currently available in the WhatsApp Android beta version (2.25.2.5), aims to make status updates more engaging and interactive, similar to Instagram’s music story sharing option.

In the latest update, users will see a music icon in the status update section. By tapping this icon, users can search for their favourite songs, artists, or trending tracks.

Once a song is selected, users can add a 15-second clip to a photo-based status or customise the duration for a video. For video status updates, the music duration will match the length of the selected clip.

The new feature aligns with WhatsApp’s broader efforts to enhance user interaction and is part of a collaboration between Meta and Universal Music Group.

The partnership allows WhatsApp users to browse through a music catalogue and select tracks directly for their status updates. The feature is expected to be released for all users soon, following its testing phase with beta users on Android and iOS.

WhatsApp’s integration of music with status updates offers a fun way to personalise posts and set the mood for the photos or videos shared. Viewers can tap the song displayed on the status to be directed to the artist’s Instagram profile.

This new feature builds on the app’s recent enhancements to the status section, which includes an updated interface and new reaction options. Users can expect more interactive tools to further improve their WhatsApp experience in future updates.

Previously WhatsApp rolled out four new features aimed at making chats with friends and loved ones more engaging and enjoyable.

In a blog post, the company announced the introduction of camera effects, selfie stickers, quicker reactions, and sticker pack sharing to streamline and enhance the messaging experience.

“With this update, users will have access to 30 backgrounds, filters, and effects for photos or videos captured within chats,” the post read. These options will enable users to add creative touches to their media, improving the overall messaging experience.
