GamersNexus is spearheading a new class action lawsuit against PayPal, joining other complaints following accusations made by YouTuber MegaLag.

The lawsuit centers on PayPal’s Honey browser extension, which is alleged to hijack affiliate links from influencers and redirect commissions to PayPal.

This lawsuit follows a detailed 90-minute video by MegaLag, which highlighted concerns over Honey’s impact on affiliate marketers.

The video recaps the claims raised in MegaLag’s original video and features interviews with lawyers explaining the legal process behind the issue. The Legal Eagle channel also filed a similar lawsuit earlier this month, further drawing attention to the alleged practices of the Honey extension.

As part of the class action, plaintiff Claudia Jayne Young, an Instagram content creator, argues that Honey replaces the influencer’s affiliate tracking cookie with its own, diverting commissions meant for influencers.

The lawsuit also claims that PayPal’s “PayPal Rewards” program further exacerbates this issue by replacing the influencer’s cookie during checkout.

The lawsuit seeks to represent a nationwide class and an Arkansas subclass of influencers whose commissions have allegedly been diverted. Young is demanding a jury trial and is seeking both declaratory and injunctive relief, along with various types of damages, including actual, statutory, treble, punitive, and consequential damages for herself and all affected class members.

This follows a separate class action filed in March 2023, where PayPal was accused of failing to secure customers’ sensitive personal information during a data breach in December 2022.
